Poker Is Fun...For Everyone...
Well the hits keep on coming in this losing streak of mine. Had two nice wins a few days ago and then went in reverse since then. Tonight I played a session of triple draw. I folded ten or twelve hands in a row at one point. Just got dealt rags every hand. The hand where I broke the streak I got dealt #6 (86432) in the SB. Everyone folded around to the blinds and of course the BB was dealt a pat #2 (76432). The guy is sort of a crazy player so you know I lost the maximum under those circumstances. Sigh. I'm playing again right now and I just had a hand where a guy raised from the button, the SB folded, I reraised from the BB with a pat 9, he called and obviously drew 4. He called and drew 3 after the first draw, called and drew 2 on the last draw, and obviously made an 87 to beat me. This is 300/600.
I really feel like I'm playing well now and running bad. This is in contrast to a few weeks ago when I was not playing my best. I guess all I can do is wait for variance to catch up with me.
I want to write a post about this triple draw principle I've been thinking a lot about. Look for that in the next few days. Someone posted a comment requesting that I blog every few hours. I've really been trying to cut down the poker content in my life lately so that's been a factor in my cutting down on posting. Unless you want to hear about other aspects of my life like golf, fantasy football, or taking my nephew around to see colleges, I'm only going to be blogging a few times a week at most.
Actually that's a good question. Do you enjoy it when poker bloggers blog about stuff like golf outings and fantasy football? My opinion is that I like poker blogs to stick to poker and I have a personal journal for my personal life. Maybe you guys feel differently though. Let me know.
I've collected a few hands from the past week or so to share because I know you guys like the hands...
- This hand is from a 100/200 razz game on Full Tilt. It's not long and you only need to know the action on one street. On sixth street my board was 489T and I was heads up with a guy whose board was 34JT. This means the best hand I can have is a 9 with a draw to an 8 and the best hand he can have is a T with a draw to a wheel. I was low so I acted first. I bet, my opponent raised, I three-bet, and he folded. This is an example of what I call "hold em player playing a stud game." The guy knows I'm weak because he can see my board. I don't have a big hand. So he knows when his heads up opponent is weak he's supposed to raise. The problem for him is that I CAN SEE HIS BOARD TOO. That's how these stud games work. I happened to have the 9 made, starting with 73 in the hole, but I would reraise here whether I had the hand or not.
The next few hands are from the big triple draw games on UB:
- On the second draw, an EP player draws 2, I draw 2, and the button draws 1. We check to him and he checks behind. On the last draw I draw 2 and they each draw 1. We check it down and I win with a king low. The point of this hand is that if you're in a pot and it's the second draw and you're drawing fewer cards than your opponent or opponents, you MUST bet. I don't care how bad your draw is. If you have a piece of cheese and you get check-raised, you're probably drawing dead and you should fold. It turns out the guy who checked behind in this hand had 8763 which is far from the worst he could have. If he bet, the EP guy would have called and there's no way I can call and draw 2 again. This way he lets me into the pot and I steal it on the end.
- UTG raises, I three-bet on the button with 832xx, the SB caps it, the BB calls, and the four of us see the first draw. SB stays pat, BB draws 1, EP draws 3, I draw 2. SB bets out, BB raises, we all call, now the SB breaks and draws 1 and we all draw 1. This is a brilliant play by the BB if he can make the guy break his hand with one small-bet-street raise. On the flipside it's a really bonehead play by the SB. The way I look at it is that if you're in a multiway pot and know you're going to break your hand if someone raises at any point, you should just break your hand before the first draw. I assume the guy had something like 87642.
I saved two other hands but they're just another incarnation of the first deuce hand I posted and then an enormous pot that I won by getting there on the river. I don't feel like typing them out. They were awesome though.
If I don't post about that triple draw concept before the weekend, remind me about it.

Personally I prefer talk about anything other than poker, but I'm probably in the minority. Where's your personal journal?
I'd be interested in hearing about Fantasy Football, if my vote matters. =P
i like anything as long as the posts are frequent
I would really like to hear this triple draw concept you've been thinking about. I have been on a horrible run in the game and I think I'm playing perfect triple draw. I'm curious to know what it involves.
i was only joking about that whole "every couple of hours thing". I was just requesting that you post more often, because I feel like I learn something most of the time that you do post.
whats your personal blog link? the singlike no one blog is never updated.
I like more talk about poker. If I wanted to here really boring personal stuff I would move over to Daniel Negreanu's blog where all he discusses now is golf and his dog Mushu. I can put on the TV for that crap. I appreciate you discussion of hands and poker life in general. Keep it up.
how can u have a wheel draw in the razz hand? does chris farg get three hole cards?
I really enjoy the poker commentary, particularly regarding Triple Draw and the bigger tournaments you play, as the limits you play are far beyond mine and the insights you have are interesting.
I'm definitely waiting to hear about your Triple Draw principle - I have been playing a lot of it recently (mostly 1/2 to 3/6) and any commentary about the game would be welcome.
I am also having a little bit of trouble with the fact that the levels on UB are so disparate - it is daunting to go from a roll which is fine for 3/6 and jump to 10/20, the next level which seems to run consistently.
I second what Traction said. I come to this blog for the always interesting poker content it provides.
If I needed to go to a blog for fantasy football content then....actually then I would be very ashamed of myself for being so pathetic.
I like the non-poker stuff.
Seems like people mostly like some non-poker stuff sprinkled in so I'll do some of that.
My personal journal is "friends only" - for people who I know in real life.
I will post about the triple draw concept in the next day or two.
For the anon person who asked about the razz hand, I couldn't have a wheel draw but my opponent could.
i like the personal stuff too
If the guy 4 bets in the razz hand, is it an auto call for you or do you have to give him credit for a hand?
Duky, I have the current nuts in the razz hand. I have a 9 and the best the guy can have is a ten. It's not a question of whether I believe his raise or not, he can't be ahead! He can certainly draw out on me on the last card, but to give him credit for a hand that can beat me right now would not be paying attention.
Sorry Chris, apparently I wasn't paying attention.
