Borgata Main Event: Someone Teach Me How To Play Poker

I played the 10k at Borgata today for four or five hours and really just played badly the whole time. I don't know what my problem is. It was pretty embarrassing. I'm not going to go into too many details. I busted with KQ vs AQ on an AKQ flop against Casey Kastle. If I had more chips I probably could have gotten away from it but given how I played today I may have just called them all off. Here's another hand I played quite poorly against Casey:

- A bunch of people limp for 100 including Casey, I limp with 5d4d. Flop Ad7h3d, early limper bets 300, Casey makes it 1k, I make it 3200, all fold to Casey who calls. Turn 8s, Casey check-calls 5k. River 4 he checks, I give up, he has 8d7d. I don't see how I could have played this hand any worse other than folding on the flop. If I'm going to bet the turn I have to follow through on the river if I miss. If I'm not prepared to follow through on the river I need to check the turn. He can't have a set because he's a good player and there's no chance a good player check-calls a big bet with a set on that board. He could have aces up and he could call me on the river with aces up I guess but he could also fold. The way I played the hand screams that I have a set. I just didn't have a plan of action after the flop on this hand and it killed me.

I feel really lost at the poker table these days. Yikes.

Sorry about the bad run in the final event. But obviously if you have to give your chips to someone, Casey isn't too bad a choice (as far as likable guys go).

Also I just wanted to address something you said a post or two ago. You said: "I've really been getting my ass kicked lately so if I'm whining too much about losing just tell me to shut up. I know no one wants to hear and it doesn't make me feel any better dwelling on it."

Don't misunderstand me, I wish all the success I can (within reason) upon my friends. But on a general level you should never underestimate the appeal of schadenfreude. While I would personally love to see you win 5 WPTs in a row, in a general sense it does help to hear about general people being anally probed in a unpleasant manner. I would hate to think I was the only person that was happening to. So please whine away.

And as far as enjoying fans of your blog coming up and introducing themselves to you, in my own case that actually goes strongly against the very reason I started my own blog, which was that the blog would allow me to blather on about myself without all the messy annoyance of actually interacting with another person. But, each to their own I guess, you whiner.

I see you are doing well in the WCOOP event #2. I read your blog fairly frequently and enjoy most all of the content. Goodluck, and maybe a nice $365,000 score could qualify for your first big tournament score.

I echo what that other Ryan said, GL in the Stars tournament. So much for not knowing how to play poker.
