Sorry Guys!

I posted very regularly on this blog for a long time and I realize I've gotten out of that habit. You guys are pissed off about it, too! Sorry. I'm lazy. Sometimes I don't want to write. When I'm traveling I'm playing so much and when I'm not playing I try not to think about poker. When I'm home I feel like I don't have a lot of exciting things to write and no one likes posts with 17 hand histories and no discussion.

Excuses, excuses. Here are some thoughts on my latest trip to Vegas.

First and foremost, I really enjoyed myself. Hmm, no first and foremost should be, "I lost my ass." But I don't want to talk about that. I really enjoyed myself! I think it's because the guys in the game are just a bunch of characters. They're all telling great gambling stories constantly and everyone rags on each other and jokes around. Some of the "famous" guys I played with this trip: Chau Giang, Todd Brunson, Dave Williams, Sean Sheikhan, Billy Baxter, Joe Awada, Eskimo Clark, Allen Cunningham, etc.

Chau cracks me up. He's quickly become one of my favorite poker personalities. I always say Gavin Smith it my favorite person in poker but Chau is gaining on him. At one point last week he had taken to saying, "The game is on." I'm not sure what brought this on, but after a while he was saying it about once a minute. It had also become, "The game is on. It's fucking on." I guess you had to be there to get the full humor, but trust me it was a riot. After a while we were all saying it. The game is on.

There was an instance at Caesar's where we had to call the floor for a decision. Basically the dealer forgot to move the button and Chau paid the small blind twice. There was a lot of action in the hand before anyone realized the error so the floor made the correct ruling that the hand should be finished even though the button was wrong. That probably would have been the end of the story except that at some point during his decision, the floor guy told us, "Don't blame the dealer." Now, this wasn't the right thing to say. We're playing for a lot of money, we take care of the dealers, it's part of their job to move the button, this was obviously the dealer's error. So Chau, who has just paid the blind twice, starts going off about this guy saying "Don't blame the dealer." Again as I'm writing this I realize it's not as funny if you're not there. For the next two or three days, every so often, Chau will just look at me and say, "Don't blame the dealer," and we'll crack up.

Okay that's all for now. I'll write some more later this week. My old home game, which goes very rarely these days, is making an appearance tonight, so I have to get over to that.

Very cool! Never thought of Chau Giang being a riot, but I guess his "I love poker" bit when he was playing Robert Williamson III heads-up in a WSOP event should have been a tip-off.

Are there any "names" you dislike having at the table because of their personality, or do you prefer to keep that to yourself?

The community of people that plays this high is pretty small. I'm pretty sure Chris isn't going to tell us who he doesn't like.

As an aside, I thought Giang played a lot higher. Even if the game was 400/800, it would only be 10% of his usual stakes.

Sorry I'm not going to talk shit about other players or speculate on why people are playing lower stakes than they used to.

HAAHHAHA OMG I totally got the humor...I love re-occurring themes, right up my sense of humor. On top of that an asian guy is saying it, I dont know how thick of an accent he's got but in my head it's pretty thick. Great LOL moment...
"dont blame the dealer"... with a disgusted look on his face...HAHAHAAHA

why should you blame the dealer? they are forced into working for casinos at gunpoint and are entitled to a guaranteed, above average salary regardless of whether or not they can actually do their job competently.

So have you had anyone come ask for your autograph or a picture yet ? When I was in Vegas last week I played at Caesar's and saw you guys playing. I thought of going up there and just asking you for a picture and/or autograph and not anyone elses, but then chickened out.

Mookie,

No one has asked me for a picture or autograph yet. You could have been the first! The guys I play with in that game get those requests all the time but they're on tv all the time so I understand. Say hey next time you see me.
