WSOP Trip 2 Days 4 & 5
Friday was the $2500 NLH tournament. My table was very good. One guy at the table was particularly fishy. He played about 75% of hands, almost always for a limp, and liked to bash his whole stack and overbet the pot ridiculously after the flop. An example:
- Three people limp, maniac calls in SB, BB checks. Flop QJ4 rainbow, maniac checks, limper makes a small bet, only maniac calls. Turn K, maniac bashes for like 2500 into a 400 or so pot, limper shrugs and calls showing 44, maniac shows J9. River T.
I was able to chip up to about 3200 but then blinded off for a few rounds when this hand came up:
- Blinds 75-150, I make it 450 two off the button with 99, only SB calls. This guy has been playing a fair number of pots and has come over the top of my preflop raises twice in the blinds with me folding both times. Flop Td7d2x, he checks, I bet 600, he makes it 1800, I have about 1600 behind. I think for a while and decide to put my last 400 or so in, he calls and shows 22 and I don't improve. It was one of those flops where the guy could easily have a draw, but I'm not sure I like calling off all my chips here.
Friday night I played more of the mixed triple draw game. Paul Darden, Can Kim Hua, and Men the Master were in the game and we were playing 75-150. I went to bed a winner and good times were had by all.
Saturday was the $2500 PLH event. My opening table bordered on the ridiculous. The lineup featured Victor Ramdin in the 1 seat, Alex Ballandin in the 2, a pro from the southern US whose name I forget in the 4, Nenad Medic in the 5, me in the 7, Carlos Mortenson in the 9, and David Williams in the 10. WTF?! I must admit, I didn't like my chances in this event before the first card was dealt and that's not a good attitude with which to go into a tournament.
- Early on with blinds still 25-25, I limped after one limper with 66, Carlos limped, David made a raise to 100 or 125, the first limper called, I called, and Carlos called. The flop was TT8, we checked to Dave, he bet 200, the first limper folded, I decided to make it 600, Carlos folded, and Dave called. The turn was a Q and it went check check. The river was a 3, I checked, Dave bet 600, I called, and he showed TT. Awesome. I pretty much hate how I played this hand on all streets.
I was pretty card dead during this whole tournament, picking up no big pairs and stealing the blinds once with AK. I busted out on this hand:
- With blinds 25-50, I made it 125 UTG+2 with KhQh and only Dave called. I had 900 behind at this point. The flop was Ac8h3h and I decided to check-raise my whole stack. Dave bet 300, I bashed, and he called and showed Ah4h. Fantastic. Does Dave have my number or what? Put a beat on me in Aruba to knock me out and then took my whole stack on these two disasters. Oh well.
Pretty disappointed with my tournament play (not just my showings, but the way I played), I jumped in the triple draw game for a few hours (Layne Flack was playing while waiting for 25-50 NLH and playing super loose) and then caught a flight back to Brooklyn. I'm playing the Party and Stars tourneys right now and have 2x average in each with a third of the field remaining so hopefully I'll have a couple of nice cashes today. Update to come later.
