Smaller Tourney Madness
My girlfriend is down here for the weekend and today we played in a $5+.50 rebuy tournament on Stars. These smaller tournaments, especially the rebuy ones, are great. They give you a lot of play because there are always a lot of chips out there and they let you try out new strategies. I played a lot more hands than I'm used to playing in this thing and built up a lot of chips. I also got ridiculously lucky winning twice with A9 vs bigger aces, winning with K3 vs 66, and with 99 vs JJ. Why these miracles can't happen in the Stars Sunday $200 or the $10Ks I've played in, I'll never know. ;) Then I picked up kings after stealing the blinds three hands in a row and re-raised an EP raiser...who had aces. Awesome. No miracle this time.
With about 170 players left (744 started), I got moved to my girlfriend's table. Of course this was bound to happen if we kept playing the same tournaments and it's happened to me and my friend Joe before in the Stars Sunday, but it's funny every time. We quickly changed positions so we couldn't see each others' screens. She stole my blinds a few times, I stole her blinds a few times. At one point we had almost identical chip counts, so we did a last longer. Sadly I busted, losing most of my chips with TT vs AJ, and she's still playing.
Poker Wannabe directed me to this 2+2 thread about the "poker haze" that people who log a lot of hours online fall into. I myself am in the haze right now. Gotta get more non-poker related things going on in my life. Good thread, anyway.
