Hands

Booked my room for Foxwoods in April today. The main hotel sold out in less than a day. Poker is aitch-oh-double-tee. Less than a day! A whole hotel! What is this, a Springsteen concert?

Hands? You want hands? Ok.

- EP limps, MP raises, I 3-bet from the SB with AKo. BB folds, EP calls, MP caps it, we both call. Flop Th5d2d. I check, EP checks, MP bets, I call, EP raises, MP 3-bets, I fold, EP......folds. Awesome. Good bluff buddy.

- I limp after three limpers with AJo. We take the AsJd8s flop seven-handed. The first limper bets, another limper calls, I call (waiting for the turn because I'm not getting any draws out on the flop), and a limper behind me calls. Four handed to the turn, the 5d. Limper A bets, limper B raises, I three-bet, everyone folds to limper B, who caps it. I wonder how that set of eights looks to him and call. River 8d, he bets, I call, he has Ac8h. Four-betting with two outs and getting there...who is better than these people?

- I raise UTG and cap it after a re-raise in a five-way pot with AQs. Flop TT5 rainbow. Three checks, LP bets, button raises, I call, MP behind me calls, bettor calls. Turn is a 5 and it's checked around. River is a 5 making the board TT555. I check, MP bets, LP calls, button calls. I'm supposed to fold but I'm getting 18-1 to win a quarter of the pot, so I call. Flame away. But here were the hands: 76o, J2s, KJo. God damn, put a three up there and give me the whole pot! So tonight I'm the donkey who makes the over-over call playing the board, but can you argue with the results? Begin flames now...

Call me a donkey, but that last hand I play the same way, except I'm probably more aggressive on the flop, betting out or check-raising. In those situations where both me and the other aggressor have overcards, I want the pot, not a split or to lose to an unimproved AK. However, maybe it's easier to have that mentality in 5/10 six-max than it is in full-ring 15/30.

Anyways, if that's a normal month for a good party 15/30 player, maybe I need to be working on getting there a little quicker...congrats on the great month.

Sup dude,

Found your blog and have really enjoyed reading it. I was wondering what criteria do use for chosing the 15/30 tables that you plan on. Is it by specific player, average pot, % of players see flop or a combination?

thanks & keep rolling those fishes in!

Wannabe, that hand definitely plays differently in a shorthanded game. I don't think that month was normal. Like I said the 75% win rate is high. Felt good though.

RB, I try to find the tables with the largest pots and the tables whose pots are consistently large. Party doesn't tell me % of players who see the flop, but I would certainly use that stat if I had it. I don't follow players around too much, but there are exceptions to that rule.
